Umno is not behind the allegation of alcohol-guzzling habit against Zaid Ibrahim, said Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein.

   

hishammuddin hussein 160310 pc at parliament He said the allegation against the PKR candidate in the Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-election was posted by bloggers and Umno had nothing to do with it.

   

"It used to be the opposition capitalising on allegations made by bloggers against Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders but we had never asked them to provide proof.

   

"It does not make any sense for us to prove the allegation as we are not the one who are responsible for it. What are they afraid of, why panic if it is not true," he told reporters after attending a community programme at Taman Sri Cahaya in Hulu Selangor today.

   

He was commenting on a challenge posted by PKR vice-president Azmin Ali to Umno to prove the allegation against Zaid.

   

Hishammuddin said the challenge clearly showed that the opposition was desperate to gain support for Zaid as the BN was regaining the people's trust.

   

"The world is round ... what they did to us before... now the table is turned against them," he said.

Opposition bereft of ideas  

Hishammuddin said the opposition seemed to be bereft of ideas as they continued to harp on the Apco issue rather than explaining the approach they would adopt to develop the constituency and champion the people.

   

He said the Apco issue had been resolved as the police found no Israeli citizens involved in the Bukit Aman's Police Reporting System project as alleged by the opposition.

   

To attest the government's transparency, Hishammuddin said the Home Ministry, among others, had lodged a police report against Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim over his allegation that Bukit Aman was infiltrated by Israeli spies.

   

Hishammuddin said he had also lodged a report against Anwar to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for the matter to be brought to the National Security Council besides calling for the opposition leader to be referred to the Dewan Rakyat's Rights and Privileges Committee.
